“The EU is shoving an undemocratic trade deal down our throats”: Really?

This refers to the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership between the EU and the USA — and there are some major problems with previous drafts of this deal, where some of the ideas on the table are unacceptable.

But there is a growing momentum across Europe to oppose those aspects of the deal. There will be no TTIP unless the European Parliament ratifies the final deal, and Parliament has already made it clear that it won’t approve it unless its concerns on these issues are met.

The momentum of this opposition is growing. Indeed, we are likely to win this battle — precisely because it’s being fought at EU level. If we weren’t in the EU, our current government might well have already signed us up to a bilateral UK-US deal with all the worst features of TTIP.
