Sir,

It is clear from your piece on car battery recycling (7 Feb) that the UK has improvements to make.

Your readers will be pleased to hear of new EU legislation which aims to reduce mercury content within batteries and to make recycling facilities free and accessible.

If we are to clean up our environment, responsibility must lie with manufacturers and consumers. This legislation offers both parties the opportunity to reduce battery waste.
