Dear Editor,

I am sorry that A.G Goldsborough has been unable to find any advantages
of EU membership, but I am grateful for the opportunity to answer his
question.

Where shall we start? How about environmental improvements, safer food,
cheaper flights, better working conditions, cleaner beaches, and paid
holiday regardless of your job - all through common legislation agreed
with our neighbouring countries in the EU.

Over 3 million British people rely on exports to the rest of Europe for
their jobs, whilst British companies are able to trade in the largest
single market in the world, with access to 450 million people - and when
trade thrives, the economy thrives.

Most important is that our continent is not ravaged by war, for the
first time in its history. Instead, we resolve our differences through
dialogue, debate and negotiation. In this context, lives are not just
being made better, but they are being saved.
