Dear Editor,
Len Barnes (letters 16 April) asks how 80-odd British MEPs can influence a European Parliament of nearly 800. Well, in exactly the same way as 56 Yorkshire MPs influence a House of Commons of 650 - because it is not them versus the rest!
Dividing lines are between MPs/MEPs of different views and parties elected by voters on that basis. Whether you support stronger environmental standard in our common market or not, higher or lower support for farmers, more or less free trade, etc, are policy choices, which depend on your political standpoint, not your geographical origin.
Yours,
Richard Corbett
