Dear Editor, Irwin Stelzer should know better (11 August). EU Foreign policy only exists on subjects that all its Member States agree on. If even one disagrees, there is no common position and no EU policy on the matter. So quite how the EU could have “ control of British foreign policy” or declare British decisions on Trident “ inconsistent with EU policy” is a mystery, as any such decision would have to be approved by Britain. Nor will the European Court have jurisdiction on Foreign Policy questions, as he claims. Yours, Labour MEP for Yorkshire & Humber |
