Dear Editor, Dr Cooper again moans about the EU Treaty, this time complaining about the supremacy of European law over national law. Perhaps he could tell us what would be the point of agreeing common laws (such as common rules for the common market) if every country can then ignore them? Take the topical example of migrating birds. The EU has agreed common rules to protect birds migrating from our part of Europe to Africa, by banning hunting during the migration season. This will only work if every country sticks to the agreed rules. It makes no sense if Malta then adopts national law allowing for the massive slaughter of these birds, negating the conservation efforts of the rest of Europe, and contradicting the EU legislation they signed up to. Yours, Richard Corbett Labour MEP for Yorkshire & Humber
