Labour MEPs urge action to ban seal culling |
|
Labour MEPs have been leading a drive to get new Europe-wide rules that would ban the clubbing to death of baby seals.
"Seal culling is an act of unnecessary cruelty and the Labour government has stopped it in the UK. "But it is time that ban was spread across the whole of the European Union. That's why I and my Labour colleagues have been leading the drive to get new laws to halt the clubbing to death of baby seals. "A European ban would be the first step towards global action against this unnecessary cruelty. "If we get half of all MEPs to sign our declaration then we will force the European Commission - the body responsible for drafting new laws - to act. "Many people in Yorkshire and the Humber have written to me about animal welfare issues, and it is important they know that I take these issues seriously. "But time is now running our and we need to get a majority of signatures very soon or this attempt will fail." ends More informationContact Toby Wardman, Press & Communications Officer for Richard Corbett MEP phone 0113 245 8987 e-mail toby@richardcorbett.org.uk |
