Leeds school children grill local MEP |
|||
|
A class of Year Six pupils from Lawns Park Primary School spent an afternoon quizzing local MEP Richard Corbett about his job in the European Parliament as part of their project on politics and public affairs. The pupils, aged 10 and 11, have spent the last term learning about domestic and European politics and also got the chance to show off their ideas for a new European Union flag, which Mr Corbett judged. In the weeks before Mr Corbett's visit the children ran a government in a role play, held a debate on Europe and created a giant map of the continent for their classroom wall. Mr Corbett said: "The children have obviously worked extremely hard on their project and I was particularly impressed by their knowledge of Europe. They could teach certain MEPs a few things ! "Hopefully the interest the children have shown in politics during their project will last until they are old enough to vote." Teacher Niall Owens said: "The children have shown a real enthusiasm for politics during the last term and were delighted to get an insight into the life of a politician from Mr Corbett." |
