Corbett hails "indispensable" PATH charity

Yorkshire and Humber MEP Richard Corbett has paid tribute to Leeds-based Positive Action Training (PATH) as it celebrates its 21 years of helping Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) people fulfil their employment potential across West Yorkshire.

Richard met with PATH manager Hughbon Condor, Elain Gentles, the charity's chair, and Fundraising and Marketing Manager Bronagh Campbell to discuss how PATH can continue to access European funding and fight under-representation across the region.

Richard said: “PATH has become indispensable to Yorkshire employers who are determined to have a workforce truly representative of our diverse region at all levels. Over the years PATH have helped hundreds of Black and Minority Ethnic people fulfil their potential.”

“By helping to fund PATH, the European Social Fund has played a small role in the outstanding work the charity does across the region. Hopefully I will be able to guide PATH towards more funding and help them begin working alongside even more employers, particularly in the private sector, so PATH can continue its sterling work.”

The BME community currently makes up 11.4%* of the West Yorkshire Population and as Yorkshire employers continue to highlight under-representation PATH continues to provide Positive Action Training.

Hughbon commented: “ Richard's interest in and support for the work of PATH will help to highlight the relevance that Positive Action Training still has today as a positive step employers can make to address their under-representation

“Since our inception in 1985 under Section 37 and 38 of the Race Relations act, our work has focused mainly within the voluntary and public sectors. We are now looking forward to working in partnership with private sector companies to help them implement their diversity policy making their workforce representative of the cultural diversity of the region.”
