Defection shows Tory cracks on Europe

Labour MEP Richard Corbett has welcomed Quentin Davies' defection from the Conservatives, citing it as another example of the Tory's Eurosceptic agenda forcing a pro-European out of the party.

Richard said: “Since David Cameron was elected Tory leader, the Conservatives have lurched back into opportunistic Euroscepticism so it is no surprise to see a committed pro-European like Quentin opt to join the Labour Party.

“Cameron is  using shallow populism over Europe to paper over the cracks he has created in the grassroots of the Conservative Party and it appears that one of his most serious and experienced politicians has finally said ‘enough is enough' and crossed the floor to a party that knows what they stand for.”
