Corbett welcomes £115m of EU flood money set for Britain

After meeting Minister John Healey in Brussels today and following his talks with European Commission member Danuta Hubner, Yorkshire and the Humber MEP Richard Corbett has welcomed the news that Britain is expected to receive £115million from the EU's Solidarity Fund, following this summer's flooding.

This funding, expected to be finalised in the coming weeks by Regional Development Commissioner Hubner follows extensive lobbying from the UK Government and the region's two Labour MEPs, Richard and his colleague Linda McAvan.

Richard said: “Large parts of Yorkshire and the Humber were affected terribly by the floods and I'm confident our region will receive its fair share of the money. As I understand it, Britain will receive the second largest payment made since the Solidarity Fund was created, with the money going towards paying for the emergency operations that followed the flooding like providing shelter and restoring essential utilities.” ENDS
