| Labour MEP hails Commons vote on treaty | |||
|
Labour's spokesman on the Lisbon Treaty in the European Parliament, Richard Corbett, is delighted that MPs have voted 346 to 206 to adopt the treaty in the House of Commons tonight. Richards said: It was important that the Lisbon Treaty was considered separately form the debate about a referendum and I'm glad that MPs have voted in favour of a treaty that will increase the efficiency, accountability and democratic scrutiny of the EU. The result of the Commons vote means Britain will ratify the treaty if the Lords choose to adopt it in their forthcoming vote. Commenting on this, Richard said: I'm confident the Lords will vote to reform the EU rather than force continued institutional gridlock. Richard added: "After detailed scrutiny, the Commons saw that the government were right about their red lines and the opposition were wrong with their red herrings" |
