Gordon Brown addresses European Parliament in Strasbourg

The Prime Minister gives hope to Yorkshire businesses as he lays out his plans for this April's G20 Summit.Gordon Brown today looks to the European Parliament for support in his plans to end the global financial crisis. The Parliament is the Prime Minister's first port of call in building a strong consensus for worldwide regulatory reform ahead of next month's G20 summit in London .

Yorkshire & Humber MEP Richard Corbett said: "Gordon Brown's plans to make it hard for big companies to take high risks with the money of Yorkshire businesses and people, are exactly what we need to hear.

"Reform of the global financial system will make it easier for small and medium sized businesses in Yorkshire to borrow money for enterprise, as the proposed tighter controls will make all companies feel safer lending credit.

Richard also criticised Conservative party plans to leave the moderate centre-right group in the European Parliament.

He said: "The economic crisis has shown how closely linked we are to the rest of Europe and the world. There has never been a worse time to be isolated and this is exactly what David Cameron's plans will lead to."
