| Yorkshire & Humber schools receive guide to EU from local Euro MP | |||
|
Yorkshire & Humber Euro MP, Richard Corbett, is trying to increase awareness about how the European Union works, by sending a home-made information CD to every secondary school in the region to coincide with the start of Spring Day for Europe 2009. The CD, which is not party political, includes a detailed PowerPoint presentation, a video and a series of leaflets all explaining how the EU works. Richard said: "It is vital that young people know how their local council works, how the British parliament works and how the European Union works and since the introduction of citizenship classes children now get the chance to learn about them. "We are obviously all affected by how our country is run and teenagers are no exception. Rules agreed at EU level mean that a younger brother or sister's toy will not contain dangerous chemicals and ensure the food they are eating is safe. They guarantee part-time workers paid holiday and the chance to live and work in another EU country. The aim of my CD was to explain how these rules were created and agreed and give an insight into my job as a Member of the European Parliament." |
