Kirkwood hospice

On a gloriously sunny Saturday, it was a pleasure to be invited to Kirkwood Hospice‘s summer garden party and fundraising event in Huddersfield.

The hospice provides invaluable medical, care and support services for people across the Kirklees area with long-term and life-limiting medical conditions. It also has an education programme, which aims to develop the skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals across the area in palliative and end-of-life care.

Despite the obvious value of their work, the hospice only receives enough government funding to cover less than 18% of its costs. So hospice staff also coordinate a range of creative fundraising activities all year round — including walking and running challenges, charity golf tournaments, classical music concerts, various stunts from skydiving to mud-wrestling, and a Sunflower Memories Appeal. To top it all off, they cook a mean hog roast!

All the hospice’s services are provided free of charge to those who need them. So if you want to get involved in supporting a worthy cause, I strongly recommend you visit their website, or email their fundraising officer Wasim Hussain.
