My response to Supreme Court Judgment

I welcome the judgment of the Supreme Court on the proper process for the triggering of Article 50. We live in a parliamentary democracy. Only Parliament, not the government, can decide on a matter that can affect the rights of UK citizens.

Parliament must now seize the opportunity to take control of this process, to determine the best way forward and set the key objectives in the forthcoming negotiations.

It should reject the damaging “hard Brexit” course of action proposed by Theresa May.

It must also reserve the right to evaluate the final outcome of the Article 50 negotiations.

When the full implications of the Brexit deal are on the table, Parliament must have the ultimate right to consider all options, including whether to accept the deal, negotiate further, or stop Brexit entirely if it is clear that it would be damaging to Britain’s interests.
